All of this results in a feeling of inner calm - being connected to your needs and desires, without feeling ashamed or guilty about them, and having the ability to defuse conflict instead of escalate or acquiesce.

"Men are disturbed not by things, but by the views which they take on things"

Epictetus

““Conflict is resolved not through compromise, but through invention.””

Mary Parker Follet

The difference between being "nice", and being kind is vast.

Often "nice" is used out of a fear of conflict, and may placate the situation in the short term but can come at the long term cost of integrity.

Integrity is needed to build any long term foundational connection in relationship.

What is often lacking when someone chooses niceness over kindness is emotional capacity & language.

Emotional capacity to experience what they're feeling without shutting down or projecting, and language to articulate, structure and regulate those feelings in a way that connects with the other.

We work on all of this.

Physicality - your thoughts influenced by your physiology, the way you move, hold and carry your body, and the way you breathe.

Emotions - Your emotional capacity is dictated by un-addressed past stress held as bodily tension (think beach balls in a swimming pool crowding the water) and your capacity to handle a range of different situations and sensations (think size of the swimming pool).
When emotional capacity is at its limit, you may find yourself shutting down, or exploding in anger.

Language is the tool you use to make meaning and give perspective to your experience, which has a huge effect on how well you're able to regulate your emotions and communicate your needs.
It's your ability to contextualise what you're going through, which allows you to keep going.

When these systems are addressed, and you've built an ecosystem of practices for regular emotional hygiene, and a bank of contexts to understand your situation through, the results are less stress, more relaxation, better connection with yourself and others, more bloodflow to the parts of your brain that matter when you're trying to handle complex situations, perspective through emotions, and better choices with better outcomes. Over time this builds confidence, competence, stability, a sense of purposefulness, and the ability to speak and act in line with your values, which protects your integrity - the foundation of self esteem.

We do this through a process of awareness and choice, discovering the unconscious ideas and systems that are guiding and governing our emotions, working through the body to release the tension. this leaves us with more space to choose how we want to show up, what we want to say and how we want to act.

It's called emotional sovreignty.
Not being reactive to others emotional states, being clear headed and being able to remain calm and with our own agency in situations where we might have previoously felt like a reactionary puppet.
